For referrers
For GPs and referrers
What I take on, what I do not, and how a referral works.
What I treat
| I treat | I do not treat |
|---|---|
| OCD at any age, including intrusive thoughts without visible compulsions | Anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder |
| Health anxiety, social anxiety, panic and agoraphobia, specific phobias | Tics and Tourette syndrome, though I treat OCD alongside them |
| Generalised anxiety disorder in adults and older teenagers | Depression as the main problem |
| Parent-only treatment (SPACE, Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) where a young person will not attend | Oppositional behaviour without anxiety or OCD, where NICE-recommended parent training via the GP, school or local authority fits better |
| Separation anxiety and school refusal in young people | ADHD and autism assessment or diagnosis |
| Body dysmorphic disorder, skin picking and hair pulling | Psychosis, bipolar disorder or active substance dependence as the main problem |
| ARFID driven by fear, sensory difficulty or low interest, where the person is medically stable | Prescribing, as I am not a medical doctor |
Co-occurring ADHD, autism, low mood and tics are not exclusions, though they can change how treatment is delivered. With younger children I work mainly through parents. Young people aged 16 and 17 can contact me and consent for themselves; for a child under 16 the first contact comes from a parent or carer.
How to refer
With the person’s consent, email drdannycbt@proton.me with their name, age, contact details and a short summary, and I will contact them to arrange a free introductory call. People can also contact me themselves. Availability varies, and I will tell you what I have.
Letters and risk
I do not send letters or reports to referrers. If there is a significant risk to someone’s safety, I contact the GP and tell the person first wherever it is safe to. A safeguarding concern about a child, or an adult at risk, goes to the local authority safeguarding team, or to the police in an emergency.
Registration, training and indemnity
I am an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist (registration PYL043844), chartered with the British Psychological Society and board certified in the United States (ABPP), with a PhD from the University of Washington. I hold professional indemnity insurance.
Clinical supervision
I offer individual online supervision to clinicians and trainees in CBT and ERP for OCD and anxiety, focusing on where ERP stalls, such as mental compulsions, reassurance-seeking within families or exposure that has drifted from the plan. I was Director of Training and Education at the Evidence-Based Treatment Centers of Seattle and am a Clinical Instructor at the University of Washington.
Contact
Email drdannycbt@proton.me, or phone or WhatsApp 07455 827405. I work weekdays, 9am to 5pm, online and in person near Ravenshead. Please do not send clinical detail by WhatsApp.
Common questions
Do you see NHS patients or accept NHS contracts?
I work privately and through recognised private medical insurers, and I am not commissioned by the NHS, so there is no NHS-funded route into my service.
Can you provide reports for EHCP or exam access arrangements?
No. I do not carry out educational or diagnostic assessments, and I do not write reports, letters or summaries for schools.
Free 20-minute call
Not sure whether this is the right fit?
Start with a free 20-minute call. We talk through what is going on, I answer any questions you have, and I tell you whether I think I can help. If I cannot, I will try to point you to someone who can. The call is free and there is no obligation to book.
Weekdays, 9am to 5pm. No GP referral needed.
